I was reading the news tonight and learned that someone wants to change what we just fought to get out of Congress. I quote:

Health Care Amendment Petition In Fayette County

The amendment would make it unconstitutional for any person, employer, or health care provider to be compelled by law to participate in a health care system.

Ohio voters could see a proposed amendment to the constitution on the ballot next November concerning health care. The Ohio Liberty Council, a state wide coalition, has submitted the amendment and petitions are being circulated in the hopes of gathering 600 thousand signatures.

John Rhoad, Fayette County Coordinator for The Ohio Project, said the proposed amendment is in response to the new federal health care bill passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama. He said the amendment would give Ohioans choices when it comes to health care.

The amendment would make it unconstitutional for any person, employer, or health care provider to be compelled by law to participate in a health care system. The law would also make it unconstitutional to prohibit the purchase or sale of health care or health insurance, and it would prohibit the government from imposing a penalty or fine for the sale or purchase of health care or health insurance.

Ohio Liberty Council President Chris Littleton said, “With the passage of untenable national mandates on health insurance, the federal government is trampling on the direct constitutional authority and responsibility of state legislatures”.

More information about the proposed amendment is available at web site. John Rhoad said Fayette County voters wishing to sign the petition can stop by (unquote) a particular office in Washington C.H. to sign it (which I'm not going to mention).

Their deadline to sign the petition here is June 28th.

We lobbied our congressmen to pass HEALTHCARE REFORM for the benefit of the country and now someone in Ohio wants to change Ohio law to NOT accept part of it. WHY? I just wish we didn't have to wait till 2014 for the major parts to take effect. WHY not 2012? We need it NOW!

When three of us (Jenny, Marie and I)confronted Mr. Austria at a "Town Hall Meeting", we were met with antagonism and very bad manners from others in attendance. When I asked Mr. Austria why he didn't do as Sherrod Brown and Dennis Kucinich had done and REFUSE his health care coverage until all other U.S. citizens received the same kind of health care, a well-known local citizen screamed at me to "Shut up and SET down." I responded that I was not going to shut up or SIT down! [I doubt if he understood the correction!] When I expressed concern about pre-existing conditions, another resident flippantly told me just to get another insurance policy if one were turned down for a pre-existing condition! I told him that he was ignorant because the insurance companies won't cover pre-existing conditions! For some reason, he was offended that I told him he was ignorant; I told him that he needed to consult a dictionary as the meaning of ignorant was "without knowledge"! Another resident began talking about the dangers of President's "czars". I stood up and asked if he had complained about the czars under Nixon, Reagan and the Bushes. A woman said she didn't want the school children "indoctrinated" by the President speaking to them. I stood up and asked if she had complained when Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush 2 had done the EXACT same thing!

Always remember the reasons we were kept from having a school built for 10 years; that we do not have fluoride in our water; we do not have a beer-bottling plant in our community; that the country club, swimming pool, skating rink, theater, restaurants, etc. were kept segregated until the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Because it takes so long to enforce laws, many of the establishments continued to be segregated for a long time!

It's the very same reason that someone would be passing around a petition to repeal our law which we have tried to pass for 60 years! You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig!
